Samba Drum is an
exciting and vibrant expression of the rhythms of South America
This is a great
opportunity for your students to participate in a unique and
memorable experience.
Percussion is
the oldest form of musical expression and yet the most accessible to
the broadest spectrum of abilities.
The combination
of Culture, History, Rhythm and Energy culminate in an Educational
and fun package that is guaranteed to be a resounding success.
An introduction
to samba detailing its historical roots, the rhythms and their
origins, the traditions, parades and their meanings.
A look at the
diverse array of drums, their names, usage, roots and importance in
the ensemble.
A demonstration
of each drum and it’s varying timbres and how it is used within the
context of the band.
The Students
will then play the various parts and get some hands on experience of
different drums.
We will look
closer at the Clave, the lead vocal of the Samba orchestra.
The program will
culminate in a hands on “Batucada”, Brazillian for a samba jam
session, featuring unison drumming, polyrhythms and call and
response, climaxing with the introduction of the clave.
